OSCAR 2011 IS IN THE AIR
The Oscar 2011 season beckons. It feels only like a yesterday that Jeff Bridges famously bagged his first and deservedly Oscar for Crazy heart. Everyone wished for him to go, “the dude abides”. He didn’t quite say that, but either ways we all cheered for Jeff. The euphoria surrounding the clash of David and Goliath (read The Hurt Locker and Avatar) was also extra special. Hollywood diva Sandra Bullock finally got a neat best actresses Oscar for her performance in The Blind Side. Everyone went speculating as to who would make the final cut between James Cameron and his ex-wife Kathryn Ann Bigelow. It was the later, underdog that ultimately bagged the most prestigious of Oscars in the 2010 ceremony.
But then that was last year and all eyes are now set on the 27thof February.
The without doubt most talked about man on planet earth right now is Mark Elliot Zuckerberg. After winning the prestigious Time magazine’s Person of the Year title in 2010 itself, it is only befitting that the most popular film of the year was also based on his life. David Fincher had his previous ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ gather a massive 13 Oscar nominations in Oscar 2009. This time round with the increasing popularity and phenomenal reviews as gathered by his latest film, ‘The Social Network’, the very talented director is surely looking at taking a few golden statues home Oscar 2011
While talking Oscar 2011, The Coens are back in reckoning with True Grit. Their previous Oscar was won in 2008 for No Country For Old Men. Post that they made two films, the quirky Burn after Reading (2008) in true trademark Coens style. Then came the absolutely brilliant A Serious Man (2009) which very much deserved an Oscar. Oscar 2011 will have them strongly contending for the awards with their ‘True Grit’ and they have last year’s Oscar winner Jeff Bridges in a starring role along with Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
